Design a new organisational structure for software development
A large Australian commercial bank had big problems delivering on technology projects in financial markets
There were a number of large projects undertaken over the past three years that were poorly managed and were up to 18 months late and 200% over budget. The technology managers wanted to improve their capability in building and delivering projects to help achieve business goals through innovation and disciplined delivery.
Project
The task was to identify why these projects went wrong and to deliver an organisational structure and resources plan to deliver innovative projects on time and on budget.
We held interviews and workshops with the business and the technology teams to identify problems in staffing, business relationships, design and delivery. Workshops were held with key stakeholders to find the best structure to accurately define business requirements, and to design, build and implement innovative projects.
Result
We presented a new organisational structure with software development and project methodologies to deliver projects to support the aims of the business. Job specifications were defined for each position and the correct staff were hired using a combination of internal and external people.
The new organisational stucture is now in place and has delivered a number of new projects with an on-time record of 90% vs 20% previously.
